The Global Initiative Against Impunity (GIAI), including the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC), REDRESS, TRIAL International and Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice (WIGJ), condemned the announced withdrawals of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This move marked a serious retreat from accountability and undermines decades of African leadership in the global fight against impunity. It weakened not only the ICC but also the global project of international justice at a time when unity is urgently needed.
